Telecommunications Technician:

Due to business growth, we are seeking a Qualified Telecommunications Technician - BASED IN PORT AUGUSTA SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
  •  Ideally, this person would have a minimum of Certificate III in Telecommunications or equivalent.
  • We would consider qualifications or experience in an allied trade (electrical / security / automotive electrical).
  • IT skills would be an advantage but we are NOT seeking a purely IT qualified person.
  • Experience with Telephone Systems / PABXs would be desirable.
  • Open Registration Cabling Licence.
  • Prepared to do data / phone cabling within building ceilings, under floor, roof top etc.
  • NOT colour blind.
  • Prepared to go On-Call / Travel.
  • Able to climb towers - ie, physically fit / healthy and not subject to vertigo / fear of heights.
  • Clear National Police Security Check, current Driver's Licence etc.
We pay above award wages, with additional On-Call allowances, overtime, generous travel allowance and commuter use of a vehicle.
All uniforms, PPE, tools, laptop computer and phone (work use only) are supplied.

Arid Land Communications covers multiple disciplines including:
  • Data Cabling (copper and optical fibre).
  • Telephone System installation and maintenance - NEC and others - including IP and SIP.
  • Large scale and domestic TV reception and distribution - Free to Air and Satellite.
  • NBN consultancy - interfacing equipment to NBN.
  • Vehicle communications - satellite, phone, radio, navigation and tracking.
  • On-Call Reactive and scheduled Proactive maintenance of electronics and power equipment for Visionstream (Telstra), Optus Kordia, Optus SAGRN, Ericsson NBN and NEC Necare.
These contracts involve considerable travel and work away-from-home for approximately 85% of SA.
On-Call work means being legally able to drive and attend faults at very short notice 24/7 when paid to be On-Call or reactive to a callout if required...often involves calls after hours.
We hold generators ready and deploy them during power outages as requested to remote sites.

Telecommunications Apprentice:

Due to business growth, we are seeking a Junior Telecommunications Apprentice (Cert III) - 4 years training - BASED IN PORT AUGUSTA SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

We have, over the years, completed training of 2 Apprentices and have one in 1st year currently.
We wish to take a Junior (School Leaver) Apprentice immediately.
The required age range is negotiable but a Junior is preferred so the person concerned has no preconceptions or bad habits and is employable as a Junior rather than Mature Age Apprentice.

The successful applicant will have:
  • Good passes in Year 11 or Year 12 subjects with a preference to IT, electrotechnology or an allied technical skillset.
  • Good health and physical fitness - this is for your safety as we work in isolation, in extreme conditions, in ceilings, on roofs etc.
  • Good eyesight - you cannot be colour blind as our cables use colour coded wires in combinations.
  • NO concerns but a healthy respect for heights - we need people who are prepared to climb towers and work in cranes and elevated work platforms to approx 45m.
  • An interest in all things technical - electronic, mechanical - gadgets!
  • A desire to learn a trade which is in demand but relatively rare.
  • A good and demonstrable work ethic - a part-time or even full time job with history would be an advantage.
  • The support of family and friends in the local community.
We pay above award rates once qualified however, the apprentice would be paid according to the appropriate award during training.
We supply everything - uniforms, PPE, tools etc.
